OLEV Grant guide
A complete guide about what the OLEV Grant is, how you can benefit from it and how to claim up to £350 for a charging point at your home or workplace.
Summary
The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) has two government grants for purchasing and installing electric vehicle chargers, one for home chargers (EVHS) and the other for workplace chargers (WCS).
Both of these OLEV Grant provides up to £350 off the cost of purchasing & installing a qualifying charge point.
Up to 2 chargers can be claimed per home under EVHS, and up to 40 chargers can be claimed per company under WCS.
There are a number of eligibility criteria that must be met to qualify for each grant scheme.
There is a limited sum of money available under each scheme, so once that money runs out the grant scheme may be suspended.
“How do I qualify for the Home grant?”
To qualify for OLEV’s Home grant:
- You need to have purchased an eligible electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle from 1st October 2016.
- Your charger must use smart charging technology
- You must have off-street parking.
- The date of installation must not be more than 4 months ahead of the
date of delivery or date the customer becomes the registered driver
of the electric vehicle.
- You must use an OLEV-approved charge point, installed by an OLEV-approved installer.

“How do I qualify for the Workplace grant?”
To qualify for OLEV’s Workplace grant:
- You must be a registered business, charity, or public sector organisation.
- You must intend to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles among your staff and/or fleet.
- You must have off-street parking for staff/fleet vehicles.
- You must install an OLEV-approved charge point, installed by an OLEV-approved installer.
